Second Day of UN Conference on Palestine's 'Peaceful Settlement'

On July 29 the United Nations held the ministerial-level concluding portion of a two-day conference titled, “The Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.” Israel boycotted the conference, and the United States dismissed it as a “publicity stunt.” The second-day session consisted of general discussion in which virtually every speaker correctly demanded the “Two-State Solution,” but spoke of it as if this term had magical powers and no further action were needed.

The only concrete plan promoted was the $53 billion reconstruction plan for Gaza which has been promoted by Egypt. However, while this Egyptian plan may be a well-intentioned proposal, it was hastily designed as an alternative to Trump’s “Gaza Riviera Plan,” and lacks the vision or regional development strategy of the LaRouche Oasis Plan. There will be no peace or development without massive water, energy, and other basic infrastructure.
