U.S. President Donald Trump has recognized there is starvation in Gaza, and that at least distinguishes him from Nazi “Bibi” Netanyahu. Returning from his visit to Scotland on July 28, he told reporters “there are kids [who] are starving [in Gaza]…. You see the mothers—they love them so much and there’s just nothing they seem to be able to do. They’ve got to get them food, and we’re going to get them food.” European media reported that while in Scotland, Trump was asked whether he agreed with Netanyahu’s assessment that there is no starvation in Gaza, to which he replied “I don’t know. I mean, based on television, I would say not particularly, because those children look very hungry…. Some of those kids are—that’s real starvation stuff. I see it, and you can’t fake that. So we’re going to be even more involved.”
So, Trump said, he has a “new aid plan,” which will, however, be carried out in partnership with the Netanyahu government in Israel—the very ones perpetrating the current genocide. He said the U.S. “and others” are giving money and food to Gaza and that Netanyahu has “got to, sort of, like, run it.” Details of this new aid plan haven’t been announced yet, and the State Department and White House have provided no information. But Trump assured reporters on his return trip from Scotland that there is plenty of money to “take care of people for a long time.” Netanyahu, meanwhile, has said nothing. Trump said Israel must be involved to make sure food isn’t stolen by Hamas and is distributed properly. “We think they can do a good job of it.”
According to the Times of Israel, Trump emphasized that the new aid centers will “be places where people could walk in and [there are] no boundaries. People currently see the food from thirty yards away … but they’ve got fences set up so nobody can even get it. It’s crazy.”
