Trump Backs Brazil's Disgraced Bolsonaro, Demands End To Trials Against Him

First, came the defense of the butcher of Gaza, Bibi Netanyahu. Next it was former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s turn to be defended by President Trump. On July 7, Trump took it upon himself to imperiously order, on TruthSocial, that the Brazilian judiciary end all trials against the former Brazilian President and Army Captain immediately.

Bolsonaro is currently being tried on various counts, the most serious being that he and his military allies were planning to carry out a coup d’état to keep Lula da Silva from assuming the Presidency after Lula had defeated Bolsonaro in the October 2022 Presidential run-off election.

As with Netanyahu, Trump held up Bolsonaro—whose government served Wall Street and the City of London, taking down the public health system in the middle of the COVID pandemic, selling off huge chunks of Brazil’s high-tech state companies (e.g., Petrobras) to speculators, slashing education and social spending to the bone—as some kind of hero, “a strong Leader, who truly loved his Country,” etc.
