Trump Promises Another Tariff Surge Aug. 1 … Perhaps

President Donald Trump announced to reporters this morning, at Andrews AFB in Virginia, that he would notify some 60-70 countries of new tariffs during the course of the next week, resulting from those nations (and others) not having made new trade “deals” with the United States during Trump’s “suspension” of “reciprocal tariffs” to allow such deals to be negotiated. He added that the United States would simply notify these countries, by letters sent from the White House from July 4 onward, of the new tariff rates which would apply to their exports to the United States.

“They’ll range in value from, maybe, 60% or 70% tariffs to 10% and 20% tariffs, but they’re going to be starting to go out sometime tomorrow,” Trump said, according to CNN journalists’ report. “We’ve done the final form, and it’s basically going to explain what the countries are going to be paying in tariffs.”
