Australia Expels Iranian Ambassador, Charging Anti-Semitism

In a press conference today in Canberra, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that his government is expelling Iranian Ambassador Ahmad Sadeghi and three other embassy officials, on grounds that the Iranian government was behind anti-Semitic attacks in Melbourne last October and an attack on a synagogue in Sydney in December. The diplomats, who are not personally charged with anti-Semitism, have seven days to leave the country.

Keep in mind that Australia has been the site of massive pro-Palestine protests against Israeli genocide, the most recent one on Aug. 24, in which hundreds of thousands demonstrated across the nation. After Albanese announced his intention to recognize the State of Palestine, relations with Israel have also been strained.
