Boris Johnson in Taiwan Says Trump Now ‘Understands’ Putin Is the Problem

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the proud saboteur of the first Russia-Ukraine negotiations has turned up on the island of Taiwan, where the ex-PM had the opportunity to hail the island’s “fortitude” in opposing the People’s Republic of China and standing as a bastion of “democracy” against autocracy. He made the comparison between Taiwan and Ukraine, claiming that now the “scales have fallen from the eyes of the White House” regarding the real nature of the Russian government. He expressed confidence that the threatened sanctions against countries that assist Russia by buying oil from them, namely India and China, will effectively force them to cease and desist, leading to ultimate defeat for Russia.

He said that Great Britain was strongly supportive of Taiwan and would increase its trade with the island. While he didn’t openly call for Taiwan independence, he praised the Lai government and warned the P.R.C. about the “unintended consequences” of starting a war, claiming he wanted only peaceful dialogue across the straits. He did weigh in on the matter, however, saying that there should be no problem if there is more than one Chinese nation and said there was no reason that the Chinese Communist Party should control Taiwan, which, of course, is on no one’s agenda. It should also be noted that there were a number of Ukrainians in the audience, which may indicate closer exchanges these days between Taiwan and Ukraine.
