Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a “stunning red welcome” when he arrived in China today, Times of India reported today, as seen in its video clip of Modi’s walk down the red carpet lined with many dancers as he exited his plane. This is Modi’s first visit to China in seven years, during which he will attend the Shanghai Coordination Organization (SCO) Summit on Aug. 31-Sept. 1, and hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines, among them with host President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. His meeting with Xi is reportedly scheduled for Aug. 31.
Media internationally had to register the potential strategic significance of Modi’s visit, with its demonstration that normal China-India relations are being restored.
