Federal Judge Blocks Fed Funding Cuts to 'Sanctuary Cities'

On August 22 a ruling by a federal judge protected over 30 American cities and counties from threatened funding cuts by the Trump administration because of policies that limit cooperation with federal immigration efforts. U.S. District Judge William Orrick in San Francisco extended a preliminary injunction that he made in April, and added a much longer list of cities and counties to his protected list.

During the hearing the judge commented that he had made a similar decision years ago, during the first Trump administration, then again in April of this year, and said, “And here we are again.” The judge also protected two entire federal grant programs to all jurisdictions across the country from any imposed immigration-related conditions.
