Former Knesset Speaker Avraham Burg defended the Jewish religion from association with Zionist war crimes in a statement he posted on his Substack August 8. Burg, who chaired the Jewish Agency and World Zionist Organization, called for a million Jews to file an appeal to the International Court of Justice over war crimes in Gaza: “This is not a rejection of our people,” he said. “it is a defense of its soul.”
In his post titled “Jews—Rebel. Now!” he called on Jews to file a “collective legal complaint against the State of Israel for crimes against humanity committed in our name and under the false banner of our Jewish identity.”
In a direct attack on the strategy employed by apologists for the Netanyahu war criminals, who justify the murderous assault on Palestinians by evoking the Holocaust, Burg wrote, “We will not allow the State of Israel, which systematically inflicts violence upon a civilian population, to speak in our name. We will not allow Judaism to be a cover for crimes.” His is the latest voice of prominent Israelis speaking out forcefully against the genocide being carried out in Gaza.
