German Industrial Insolvencies Highest in 20 Years

German industrial businesses are going bankrupt at the highest rate in two decades.

The Leibniz Institute for Economic Research (IWH) in Halle has published its insolvency trend for the second quarter of 2025, documenting an unprecedented job-losing dynamic: The number of employees affected by layoffs in June was 68% above the level of the same month last year and 43% above the pre-coronavirus average.
