In response to the Aug. 22 determination by the UN’s Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) platform, that over 500,000 people in Gaza are in famine conditions, Hamas issued a statement calling for international actions to stop Israeli genocide. “Based on this official declaration, we call upon the international community, especially the states party to the Geneva Conventions, to take immediate action in accordance with famine response protocols, including immediate humanitarian intervention and the opening of safe corridors for the unconditional entry of food and medicine,” the statement said. “We also call upon our Arab and Islamic nations to move beyond statements of condemnation and denunciation, and to take real practical steps to break the siege and save what remains of our people in Gaza, who are facing death by starvation and due to war crimes.”
