India's Modi Confirmed for China Trip, as India-Russian Ties Strengthen

India is deepening its strategic engagement with China and Russia, signaling a shift toward closer trilateral collaboration.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has confirmed his personal attendance at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Tianjin, China at the end of this month, NDTV reports. The two-day summit over Aug. 31-Sept. 1 is expected to cover terrorism and regional security along with trade, and, according to NDTV, “efforts will be made to restore stability and dialogue in India-China relations.”

Modi met with President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the October 2024 BRICS summit in Kazan, just a few days after an announcement that the escalating border tensions were being pulled back. This development has been important in normalizing ties between the two countries. Will Modi and Xi have a bilateral meeting at the upcoming SCO summit?
