The Times of India reported that the Modi government is responding to the Trump administration’s imposition of 50% tariffs against imports from India, by looking to expand its export presence in 50 other countries that account for 90% of India’s total exports. “The strategy entails boosting engagement with new markets in the Middle East and Africa in particular, according to a CNBC TV18 report,” RT reported. “The approach will be tailored to specific products and will be guided by three main objectives: diversifying exports, substituting imports with domestic products, and improving export competitiveness, the report added.… The new policy is aimed at reducing dependence on any one market and minimizing the risks associated with trade disruptions.”
