Lavrov Speaks with BRICS Partners, Foreign Ministers of Brazil and Egypt

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke with his Brazilian and Egyptian counterparts by phone on Aug. 19 to discuss key topics of mutual importance. The Kremlin readout on the Aug. 19 phone call between Lavrov and Brazil’s Mauro Vieira is intriguing. “During the conversation, the parties touched on some issues of interaction within BRICS; Brazil’s chairmanship in BRICS in 2025, including the outcomes of the 17th summit in Rio de Janeiro … were highly appreciated. The ministers have reaffirmed their intention to strengthen interaction within BRICS, including in the operation of the New Development Bank, at the United Nations and other international platforms.”

Otherwise, Vieira “expressed his support for the joint activities of Moscow and Washington in establishing requisite conditions for achieving a stable settlement of the Ukraine crisis,” and “some items on the Russian-Brazilian agenda and the schedule of contacts until the end of 2025” were discussed.
