At 6:03 p.m. Aug. 8 , President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Alaska will be the site for the urgently-needed summit now scheduled between the Russian and American Presidents. “The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska. Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Shortly thereafter, Russia’s TASS news service confirmed the news—and then some. TASS cited Kremlin advisor Yury Ushakov: “Russia and the U.S. are close neighbors, bordering each other. It seems quite logical that our delegation should simply fly across the Bering Strait, and that such an important and long-awaited summit between the leaders of the two countries should be held there.”
The two Presidents “will undoubtedly focus on discussing options for a long-term, achieving a long-term peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis,” Ushakov stated. He pointed out, however, that “the economic interests of our countries intersect in Alaska and the Arctic, and there are prospects for implementing large-scale, mutually beneficial projects.”
