A column written by Andrew Roth, a geopolitical hatchet-man at the London Guardian, was titled, “Trump alone in a room with Putin is a recipe for disaster—just look to their last meeting.” According to Roth’s twisted logic, the “danger” of the July 2018 meeting of Trump and Putin in Helsinki, Finland was that they wanted to work together to end wars and build a basis for peaceful relations.
Most troubling for Roth is the possibility that the upcoming meeting may include a discussion on a ceasefire or a “land-swap” in Ukraine. Roth writes that Europeans view this upcoming meeting as a repeat of the 1945 Yalta Conference where the fate of European territory was decided by the US, the USSR, and Britain, but without any input from Europeans who would be impacted.
