Russian President Putin informed his leading allies in the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization of his three hours of meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, on Aug. 15.
On Aug. 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and in a 30-minute conversation shared information about his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. The Kremlin readout reported succinctly that Putin had informed Lula of “the key outcomes of the talks,” and “President Lula da Silva noted the importance of this information, including in the context of the efforts by the Group of Friends for Peace on the Ukraine Crisis, co-chaired by Brazil [and China]. The Presidents reaffirmed mutual interest in maintaining Russia-Brazil dialogue and closely cooperating within BRICS,” it added. The state press agency Agência Brasil, also reported that “President Lula thanked him [Putin] for the call and reaffirmed Brazil’s support for all efforts leading to a peaceful solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He also wished success for the ongoing negotiations.”
Putin also briefed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi posted to his X account today: “Thank my friend, President Putin, for his phone call and for sharing insights on his recent meeting with President Trump in Alaska. India has consistently called for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and supports all efforts in this regard. I look forward to our continued exchanges in the days to come.”
