Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Summit (SCO) in Tianjin. Upon arriving at the meeting, Lukashenko commented to the Chinese leader: “You are simply great—the gigantic development of the People’s Republic of China! Organization, discipline, everything in its place, no one goes anywhere in vain. People are engaged in specific work. I see in this a great success of your state and a great success of your leadership, your colleagues in China,” reported Belarus news agency BelTA.
Lukashenko said that Belarus had to follow China’s example. “Once upon a time, the Soviet Union and China very amicably built the model that you have not lost now, which you have in place in the organization and management of the People’s Republic of China. Unfortunately, we have lost a lot,” the Belarusian leader said. “I congratulate you on leading your country towards the goal you have set in the Chinese way, wisely, carefully, without revolutions and upheavals.”
In his turn, Xi said: “In June, we met in Beijing and decided to further deepen multifaceted bilateral cooperation. We propose, based on the fruitful results achieved within the framework of the years of cooperation in science, technology and innovation, to focus on the development of productive forces of a new quality in the interests of the development of our countries.”
