State Department Report Criticizes Human Rights Abuses in Ukraine

The U.S. State Department released a report, on the eve of the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, on the conditions of human rights in Ukraine, as reported by Russia’s Komsomolskaya Pravda. It is a no-holds-barred report. While far from being an exposé of how Ukraine has become a dictatorial state, ruled from abroad, the report may have repercussions for Euro-stooge and acting Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “Significant human rights concerns related to Ukrainian government officials include credible reports of torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment; arbitrary arrest or detention; severe restrictions on freedom of expression and media freedom, including violence or threats of violence against journalists, arbitrary arrests or harassment of journalists, and censorship; systematic restrictions on workers’ freedom of association; and the significant presence of the worst forms of child labor,” the report reads.

The State Department cited shortcomings in the area of censorship and human rights restrictions, as “authorities restricted content and punished individuals and media outlets for criticizing government actions or expressing pro-Russian views, including financial sanctions, blocking websites and television channels,” and the telethon “provided an unprecedented level of government control over prime-time television news.”
