At 12:01 a.m. on Wed. August 27, the Trump administration activated its threatened 50% tariff level against India, the world’s most populous nation—allegedly to punish them for continuing to buy much-needed Russian oil, and for refusing to open up their internal agricultural market to dumping by U.S.-based multinational grain cartels and others. This has led to a “head-spinning deterioration” of U.S.-India relations, according to a former State Department official, Alyssa Ayres, quoted by the Financial Times.
Earlier in August, Brazil had 50% tariffs imposed on its exports to the U.S.—to try to force the government to drop the much-deserved criminal charges against former President Jair Bolsonaro for trying to stage a coup d’état and preventing Lula da Silva from assuming the Presidency in January 2023.
Other U.S. import tariffs in place include: 55% on Chinese goods; 30% on South African goods; 20% on Vietnamese goods; 19% on Indonesian goods; etc.
Four days from today, on Aug. 31, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will hold its 25th annual Heads of State Council meeting in Tianjin, China, with the participation of over 20 heads of state and government, including those of China, Russia and India. They will stand together against the Trump tariffs and, like the nations of the BRICS, they will accelerate their discussion of alternatives to the current bankrupt trans-Atlantic system which would reduce them to penury.
Because of our subservience to Wall Street, the U.S. stands at the brink of bringing about our own self-imposed isolation from that Global Majority, whose economies are the only ones on the planet today showing actual physical-economic growth—all to try to shore up Wall Street and the City of London’s bankrupt system, with its $2 quadrillion in worthless financial assets. Washington’s beggar-thy-neighbor tariff policy goes hand in hand with the plan to use $100-200 trillion in worthless crypto-currency to try to prop up the bankrupt speculative bubble. That financial policy will in turn dictate the imposition of police-state measures of debt collection over the subject populations… including in the United States.
Fortunately, another course of action is readily available. In the wake of the Alaska summit between Presidents Trump and Putin, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov told TASS that there are plenty of areas in which the two countries can cooperate for development, as had been discussed at the summit. “For example,” Manturov stated, “Russia could supply uranium for U.S. nuclear fuel production… Our President has also mentioned potential collaboration on rare and rare-earth metals.”
In Aug. 22 remarks to Russian young nuclear workers, President Putin presented an even broader vision: “First and foremost, this includes work in controlled thermonuclear fusion…. Equally fruitful collaboration is needed for another large-scale project: the creation of a space system with a special power plant and a so-called space tug based on a nuclear power unit. Such solutions open fundamentally new prospects for deep space exploration … while crucially expanding opportunities for creativity and self-realization among talented young people.”
If the United States is to match and join that vision of the Earth’s next 50 years, and forestall the worst consequences of a full-scale blowout of the Western financial system that Wall Street’s policies are bringing upon us, we must turn to the policies of Lyndon LaRouche, in particular to his famous ["Four New Laws To Save the U.S.A. Now!"[(https://larouchepub.com/eiw/public/2021/eirv48n50-20211217/eirv48n50-20211217_003-the_four_new_laws_to_save_the-lar.pdf).
That call by LaRouche began: “The economy of the United States of America, and also that of the trans-Atlantic political-economic regions of the planet, are now under the immediate, mortal danger of a general, physical-economic, chain-reaction breakdown-crisis of that region of this planet as a whole.… The effects of this already prepared action by the monetarist interests of that so-designated region, unless stopped virtually now, will produce, in effect, an accelerating rate of genocide throughout that indicated portion of the planet immediately, but, also, with catastrophic ‘side effects’ of comparable significance in the Eurasian regions.”
In addition to measures such as a return to the Glass-Steagall separation of productive from speculative banking; the creation of Hamiltonian credit institutions; and the adoption of joint great infrastructure projects with other nations; LaRouche also insisted that it was necessary, above all, to “Adopt a Fusion-Driver ‘Crash Program.’” He explained:
“The essential distinction of man from all lower forms of life, hence, in practice, is that it presents the means for the perfection of the specifically affirmative aims and needs of human individual and social life.... This meant the mustering of the power of nuclear power, then, and means thermonuclear fusion now. Without that intent and its accomplishment, the population of the United States in particular, faces, now, immediately, the most monstrous disaster in its history to date.”
LaRouche concluded: “Man is mankind’s only true measure of the history of our Solar system, and what reposes within it. That is the same thing, as the most honored meaning and endless achievement of the human species, now within nearby Solar space, heading upward to mastery over the Sun and its Solar system, the one discovered (uniquely, as a matter of fact), by Johannes Kepler. A Fusion economy, is the presently urgent next step, and standard, for man’s gains of power within the Solar system, and, later, beyond.”
