President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social Aug. 22: “I am pleased to announce that we are doing a major Tariff investigation on Furniture coming into the United States. Within the next 50 days, that investigation will be completed, and Furniture coming from other Countries … will be Tariffed at a Rate yet to be determined. This will bring the Furniture Business back to North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, and States all across the Union.”
While the media are reporting “China and Vietnam,” exports of wooden furniture from Asia have been shifting to India, and 50% of India’s furniture exports go to America. These are already under 25% tariff along with India’s exports in general. Now, “a rate yet to be determined” may be added in October.
