RT reported on Aug. 18 on the fact that “U.S. negotiators have called off a planned visit to New Delhi for a sixth round of talks on a bilateral trade agreement, Indian media outlets reported on Saturday [Aug. 16].… A delegation led by Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Brendan Lynch was scheduled to visit India from Aug. 25 to Aug. 30, but the trip has been canceled, the Financial Express reported, citing an anonymous Indian government official…. ‘From their (U.S.) side, the trade negotiations (are) halted, whether (this is) forever or temporary, there’s still no idea,’ the source told the outlet. ‘They said they won’t come for the Aug. 25 meeting.’”

This happened after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi refused to budge on Washington’s demands that he open the large Indian market to U.S. food exports, and that India stop buying oil from Russia. “On Friday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that his government will ‘stand like a wall’ to protect the interests of the nation’s farmers,” reported RT.
