Under the headline “Joining Forces with Türkiye,” the lead article in Egyptian government daily Al Ahram reports on the Sept. 22-26 joint Egyptian-Turkish naval exercises, to demonstrate the strength of bilateral relations. Seen in the current crisis created by an Israel that is all but out of control, the military cooperation between the two countries that have the largest military establishments in the region is significant.
The article points out that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan recently described relations between the two countries as being at their “best level in modern history.”
The Türkiye-Egypt Sea of Friendship Naval Operation Special Exercise, a five-day naval drill, was held in the Eastern Mediterranean and was attended by the naval commanders of both countries, and demonstrates the dramatic improvement in bilateral relations. The exercises were the first since 2013, when relations had been broken off by Türkiye after the government of Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohammed Morsi was overthrown. Relations were resumed in 2023.
