A Key Theme of the 80th Anniversary Commemoration Is the Unity of the Allies in World War II

While the major celebrations going on in Beijing, including the impressive military parade, raised concerns among Washington’s warhawks that it was meant as a threat to the United States, in fact an important theme was the need for countries to come together, underlining the all-important role of the anti-fascist alliance during World War II. In his speech at the reception following the Tiananmen parade, China’s President Xi Jinping again returned to this theme which he had mentioned in his Tiananmen comments.

“This great victory was achieved through the joint struggle of the Chinese people together with the anti-fascist allies and peoples across the world,” Xi said. “The Chinese government and people will never forget the foreign governments and international friends who supported and assisted the Chinese people in their resistance against aggression.”
