Doctors Without Borders Suspends Services in Gaza City

In Gaza, Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF) has been forced to suspend its activities in Gaza City due to the relentless Israeli offensive, said MSF in a statement.. “The escalating attacks from Israeli forces have created an unacceptable level of risk for our staff, forcing us to suspend lifesaving medical activities,” wrote MSF. “We have been left with no choice but to stop our activities as our clinics are encircled by Israeli forces. While large numbers of people have fled south due to evacuation orders, there are still hundreds of thousands in Gaza City, who are unable to leave and have no other option but to stay,” the statement said, emphasizing that the organization continues to work in the south and central part of the enclave.

Separately, human right activists are warning that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza and whom the IDF imprisoned last December after a horrific assault and siege on the hospital, is suffering deteriorating health conditions from his imprisonment. He suffers serious ailments, including severe scabies and heart problems, according to Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI), reported Middle East Eye. “Dr. Abu Safiya requested to be examined by a doctor because of scabies and heart problems, but his request was ignored,” PHRI wrote, adding that he has to take regular medication for his high blood pressure.
