U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio not only reiterated the U.S.’s unrelenting support for its “close ally” during his Sept. 14-16 visit to Israel; he also joined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee in two provocative acts designed to assert Jewish sovereignty over internationally-recognized multi-faith religious sites in Jerusalem. Rubio, yarmulka on his Catholic-Mormon head, prayed at the Western Wall (known to Muslims as the Al-Buraq Wall), and participated in ceremonies inaugurating the so-called “Pilgrim Road,” a long tunnel now open for “tourism” which runs under occupied East Jerusalem to the foot of the Al Aqsa mosque, which the most extreme Zionist fanatics seek to tear down so as to rebuild the site’s earlier Temple Mount.
In December 2000, EIR published a 167-page Special Report, “Who Is Sparking A Religious War In the Middle East?” which traced the roots of the Temple Mount cult operation to the highest levels of the British oligarchy, and to this day remains the authoritative source on this topic.
Ibrahim Negm, senior advisor to the Grand Mufti of Egypt, the nation’s highest religious leader, issued an urgent warning on Sept. 18 that Rubio’s display of support for such extremist Zionist plans is playing with fire. History has shown how explosive the “Temple Mount” operation can be, he warned.
