Israel Has No Veto over Danish Recognition of Palestinian State

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen responded to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar’s declaration on Sept. 7 that a Palestinian state would be a security threat to Israel, by telling him that Israel does not have a veto over Danish foreign policy. “We are not ready to recognize a Palestinian state,” he said reported the Jerusalem Post. Then he added: “Israel does not have a veto over any Danish recognition of a Palestinian state.”

“Israel must stop its military offensive in Gaza, Copenhagen is concerned about settlement expansionism in the West Bank,” Rasmussen went on. “Israel should allow injured Gazans to be transported to East Jerusalem, the West Bank for medical treatment.”
