An Israeli attempt, by long-range strike, to assassinate the Hamas leadership in Doha, Qatar, has reportedly failed. A source close to the Palestinian movement told Middle East Eye that all senior leaders targeted in the attack survived, including Khalil al-Hayya, Khaled Meshal, Zaher Jabarin, and others. MEE reported further that the leaders were meeting to discuss the latest U.S. ceasefire proposal for Gaza, presented to Hamas in recent days.
The attack, however, killed Khalil al-Hayya’s son, Hammam al-Hayya, and his office director, Jihad Lubbad, according to sources. Several others were wounded. According to media reports, around 12 airstrikes struck residential buildings in Doha around 4 p.m. Arabian Time Zone (13:00 GMT).
The IDF and Shin Bet confirmed Israeli authorship of the attack. “The IDF and ISA (Israel Security Agency) conducted a precise strike targeting the senior leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization,” they wrote on X. “For years, these members of the Hamas leadership have led the terrorist organization’s operations, are directly responsible for the brutal October 7 massacre, and have been orchestrating and managing the war against the State of Israel.”
