On Saturday, Sept. 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov briefly addressed a press conference held on the sidelines, following his address to the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, and warned that Germany appears to be following a military build-up policy reminiscent of Adolf Hitler’s policies to dominate Europe.
“It’s not just militarization, there are clear signs of re-Nazification,” he told reporters. “And why is this being done? Well, probably with the same goal that Hitler had—to dominate all of Europe. And to try to inflict a strategic defeat on the Soviet Union, in the case of Hitler, and in the case of modern Germany and the chorus of main soloists from the European Union and NATO—on the Russian Federation,” reported RT.
Lavrov referred to remarks that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made in a speech to the German Bundestag shortly after his May 6, 2025 election, in which he pledged to turn the Bundeswehr into “the strongest conventional army in Europe.”
