Two large Gaza City clans were attacked and large numbers were killed, after rejecting a proposal from Israel’s Shin Bet to work with Israel’s occupation, by being militarily armed and assigned control over specific zones of the city, according to a report by the Saudi daily Asharq Al-Awsat. They would be required to fight Hamas and pass along intelligence over their zone to Israel. The daily cited its security sources and contacts on the ground in Gaza.
The proposed arrangement would resemble arrangements made months ago with a drug-running gang in the Rafah area of Gaza, led by Yasser Abu Shabab, and reportedly armed by Israel to fight Hamas. However, in this case, both the Daghmash and Bakr families rejected the arrangement. Asharq Al-Awsat reported that the details of the offer and their rejection were confirmed by a member of the Bakr family.
The daily reported that the rejection of the Shin Bet offer occurred on Sept. 26, and one day later, Israel forces attacked several houses belonging to the two families. Thirty members of the Daghmash family, in the Al-Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City, are known dead, with at least 20 others still under the rubble. A house of the Bakr family was bombed, killing 6 of its members and wounding 11 others. A second building was bombed, injuring many of the Bakr children.
