While much of the pro-war Western media is hyper-ventilating with excitement over President Trump’s Sept. 23 comments that Ukraine could and should regain all territory lost to the Russians since 2022, and that the Europeans could and should be the ones to give Ukraine full backing—characterizing those remarks as everything from a “tectonic shift” to a “total reversal” of Trump’s previous “pro-Russian” policy—London’s The Economist magazine is far more sober.
In a Sept. 24 article headlined “Fixing the Rot in Ukraine, the Economist warned: “Mr. Trump appeared to embrace a remarkable shift, urging Ukraine to recapture all the territory it has lost to Russia and Europe to shoot down errant Russian aircraft. That was taken as support. More likely, he is washing his hands of the war. If so, Ukraine and its European allies will have to resist Russia alone.”
