The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi spoke at an event in Gujarat, where he launched maritime projects worth over $40 billion, and emphasized that India is “progressing with the sentiment of being a global friend” and has no major adversaries. “In the true sense, if we have any enemy, it is the dependence on other countries,” he added, according to RT.

Modi was referring, in part, to the Trump administration’s attempt to pressure India to stop buying Russian oil, by imposing a 50% punitive tariff on Indian exports to the United States. “Till we remain at the mercy of others, our self-respect will also be hurt.… We cannot risk our future generations on others,” he said. He referred specifically to the maritime sector and the need to strengthen domestic shipbuilding and other industries. “Whether chips or ships, we need to make them in India,” Modi said.
