Speaking at an IDF General Staff Forum on September 22, the day before the Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashanah, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a clear threat to begin a new conflict with Iran: “We are in a struggle in which we are prevailing over our enemies, and we must destroy the Iranian axis—and we have the power to do that. This is what lies ahead of us in the coming year, which could be a historic year for Israel’s security,”
And throwing down the gauntlet to world opinion, which will begin discussing the outrageous actions of Israel at the UNGA today, Netanyahu also remarked: “I want to repeat that we are determined to achieve all our war objectives; not only in Gaza, not only to complete the elimination of Hamas, to free our hostages, and to ensure Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel, but also on other fronts—to open opportunities for security, for victory, and also for peace.”
