Pakistan Seeks To Purchase Laser Weapons from China

Ahmed Saed, president of Pakistan’s National Institute of Maritime Affairs, expressed an interest in obtaining laser weapons from China, South China Morning Post reports. Saed was attending the annual Xiangshan Forum in Beijing on Sept. 19. “In the coming days, high-energy directed weapons will become more prominent…. I think the world is going towards this transition. Pakistan would love to see some integration in this area,” he said.

In the military parade in Beijing on Sept. 3, China had on display its shipborne lasers, indicating the work that is being done on laser weapons. These, however, may simply be the beginning, as the work on lasers in China builds on the extensive work done previously on these weapons by the Soviet Union.
