Poland is interested in becoming a nuclear power. Polish President Karol Nawrocki reportedly said during a TV interview on Sept. 16 that he was open to Poland’s having a nuclear capability. Poland should have an opportunity to host foreign nuclear weapons on its territory and to develop its own nuclear energy, he said on LCI television, reported TASS. “As the president of Poland, I believe that it should participate in the (NATO) Nuclear Sharing program,” he said, adding that his country should have its own nuclear technologies, including atomic energy.
However, he did not specify whether Poland was planning to obtain its own nuclear weapons, and proclaiming that it was “too early to speak” about it. Poland already participates in NATO’s nuclear sharing program as a supporting non-nuclear member, but no nuclear weapons are stored there.
