It turns out that a house that was damaged during the Sept. 10 drone incursion in eastern Poland was struck not by a Russian drone, but by a failed air-to-air missile fired by a Polish F-16. “It was an AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missile from our F-16, which failed its mission due to a malfunction of the targeting system during the flight. Luckily, it did not explode thanks to the detonator fuse,” an unnamed source told the Rzeczpospolita newspaper, reported TASS. TASS notes, however, that the Lublin prosecutor’s office has not officially confirmed what the object was and is waiting for an expert opinion.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk still blamed the Russians. “All responsibility for the damage to the house in Wyryki falls on those responsible for provocation, the Russians,” he posted on X, reported TVP World. “The appropriate authorities will inform the public, the government and the president about the circumstances surrounding the incident once the proceedings have been completed. Hands off Polish soldiers.”
Poland’s National Security Bureau, which answers to the country’s President, released a statement on Sept. 16 saying that President Karol Nawrocki had not received a report from the government on the circumstances regarding the damaged house before Rzeczpospolita published its story.
