Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), revealed to a small press briefing on the sidelines of Russia’s World Atom Week’s Atom Expo 2025 in Moscow, which he and his delegation were attending, that Iran is pursuing cooperation with Russia on a variety of technologies in the nuclear industry. Kamalvandi said that during the talks that the Iranian nuclear delegation held in Russia, “negotiations and agreements were made, especially in the area of building power plants larger than Bushehr with a capacity of 1,200 MW, which includes a total of four units with a capacity of nearly 5,000 MW in the south of the country,’” reported Iran’s news agency IRNA.
The Bushehr power plant currently has one operating 1,000 MW reactor and two more reactors under construction at the site. The operating unit, which has a net capacity of 915 MWe, went online in 2011, with assistance from Russia. The Bushehr facility is located in southern Iran on the coast of the Persian Gulf.
