Russia Insists Swiss ‘Neutrality’ Is a Hoax

A proposal by the State Secretariat for Security Policy (SEPOS), part of the Swiss Ministry of Defense, that Swiss peacekeepers be sent to Ukraine, because, unlike NATO countries, Switzerland is neutral, has been opposed by the Swiss People’s Party, which holds a majority in the National Council (the lower house of parliament).

The Russian Embassy in Bern told Izvestia: “The Russian side has made it clear on numerous occasions that it will not accept any scenarios involving the deployment of military contingents to Ukraine with the participation of NATO countries. Bern must understand that this position extends to the [Swiss] Confederation as well: while formally outside the military bloc, once-neutral Switzerland has adopted an anti-Russian course by joining sanctions against our country and is becoming increasingly drawn into military cooperation with NATO and the European Union.”
