The U.S. State Department today issued a directive targeting Iran’s Chabahar Port, by revoking a waiver on U.S. sanctions against the port that has been in effect since 2018. The port is a joint venture with India and is in fact leased to the latter. It is an integral part of the International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC) which is operated jointly by Russia, India, Iran and other countries in the Central Asian region. The order goes into effect on Sept. 29.
