Secretary of State Marco Rubio is not content with refusing to issue visas for 80 (eighty) Palestinian leaders who planned to attend the high-level United Nations General Assembly meeting on the Palestinian question set to start on Sept. 22. According to an internal State Department memo seen by Associated Press, State is now considering “ramping up restrictions on several other delegations that would severely limit their ability to travel outside New York City,” AP reported on Sept. 4.
Iran, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Brazil are named as among the potentially targeted nations. Syria, however, now led by “reformed” ISIS terrorists who seized power in a coup a year ago, will likely see some restrictions on its diplomats lifted.
Few details were provided on why or what kind of restrictions may be placed on Sudan, Zimbabwe, and Brazil, the last of which holds the privileged position at the UN of always giving the opening speech of world leaders addressing the annual September UN General Assembly.
The discussion of restrictions on Iran, however, reveal the vicious pettiness behind such plans.
AP reporter Matthew Lee headlined his story “U.S. Considers Banning Iranians From Shopping at Costco during UN Meeting.” He explains that “the movements of Iranian diplomats are severely limited in New York, but one proposal being floated would bar them from shopping at big, members-only wholesale stores like Costco and Sam’s Club without first receiving the express permission of the State Department.
