The British monarchy’s Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) published and article September 19, “Europe’s Moment: A Sanctuary Strategy for Ukraine,” by “strategist” Nathaniel England, that calls for quickly imposing a Coalition of the Willing-policed no-fly zone over two-thirds of Ukraine, with the interception of Russian military craft and drones combined with a build-up of military forces on the Belarus border. This has to be done now, the author insists, before Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are able to negotiate a peaceful resolution: “Nor can Europe afford to wait for peace talks brokered elsewhere.” He specifies that London and Paris have to take the lead for all of Europe.
This British policy represents an attempt to sabotage Russian-U.S. efforts to end the war, and could lead directly to nuclear confrontation between NATO and Russia.
“The first element,” author England proclaims, “is a no-fly zone (NFZ) over central and western Ukraine. The protected area proposed here would run from the tri-border (Belarus-Russia-Ukraine) south-east to Pavlohrad, then south-west via Kryvyi Rih to Mykolaiv, west to Dobroslav and from there south through Odessa to the boundary of Romanian airspace on the Black Sea. This shields Ukraine’s heartland.” Take a look at a map: It shows that the NFZ would extend over Moldova, where there are currently highly-contested events, and would partition the Black Sea, facing directly to Crimea.
England asserts, “The second element is a defensive ground presence on Ukraine’s border with Belarus. A modest multinational deployment along this flank would be far from the front lines and strictly defensive [sic]. Its purpose would be to prevent Moscow from opening a new axis of attack.…” This action would be “signalling that any renewed assault from Belarus would automatically involve European states and raising the costs of escalation for Moscow.”
