The British Hype Drone Incursion into Poland

Footage from social media of alleged Russian drone that landed in Polish territory on Wednesday.

True to form, London’s The Economist came out with an article that is a transparent attempt to whip readers into a frenzy over the Sept. 10 drone incursion into Poland. This “is the most serious incursion into NATO territory since the foundation of the alliance in 1949,” it begins, and goes on to quote the most hysterical responses from Poland. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Poland was now the “closest to open conflict since the Second World War” and called for the “full mobilization” of NATO members.

The Economist then paints this as only the first step in a larger war Russia is planning to launch against Europe. It references the beginning of its Zapad military exercises in Belarus, starting Sept. 12. “On paper, 13,000 soldiers will be involved,” they write, but add: “The real number is expected to be considerably higher, as it was during the last Zapad exercise in autumn 2021, which amassed some 200,000 troops. Russia attacked Ukraine five months later.”

They insist that the drone incursion was intentional, and that “Russia may be probing Polish air defences for holes, a mission for which drones are routinely employed in Ukraine.”
