The discussion on Tian Wei’s Program on CGTN today discussed responses from global leaders who attended the SCO Summit, commenting on Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI). Comments of note included:
Former Kyrgyz Prime Minister Djoomart Otorbaev: The GGI aims to counter bullying in world affairs, through discussion of ideas by independent nations of the Global South. The point is to create something different from the Bretton Woods system set up by the Western leaders after World War II, which will be more fair. We must replace the 80-year-old agreements which are no longer effective
Rong Ying, a Fellow at the Chinese Institute of International Studies, said the five principles of the GGI are similar to the founding principles of the UN, as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed in his presentation. Rong Ying added that the establishment of the SCO Development Bank is particularly important and needed.
