At an August 28 Cabinet Meeting at the White House, President Donald Trump spoke about the 2020 Operation Warp Speed effort to develop a Covid-19 vaccine during his first Presidency, saying: “We did a great job with it; never got the credit for the job we did. Operation Warp Speed, people say, is one of the greatest achievements ever in politics…. Everybody, including Putin, said that Operation Warp Speed, ‘What you did with that, nobody can believe it.’ And we did a great job.”
But on Sept. 1 Trump posted on Truth Social “I hope OPERATION WARP SPEED was as ‘BRILLIANT’ as many say it was. If not, we all want to know about it, and why??? I have been shown information from Pfizer, and others, that is extraordinary, but they never seem to show those results to the public. Why not???”
According to a 2022 report from the Commonwealth Fund the federal vaccine program from 2020 to 2022 prevented 3.2 million U.S. deaths, prevented over 18.5 million additional hospitalizations, prevented over 120 million more Covid-19 infections, and saved $1.15 trillion in medical costs in the United States alone.
