The Trump Administration is reportedly interested in selling about $6 billion worth of weapons to Israel. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the State Department is seeking the approval of the top Republican and Democratic members of the House Foreign Affairs and Senate Foreign Relations Committees, before publicly announcing the proposed sale and formally notifying the U.S. Congress. The proposed sales include 30 Apache attack helicopters for $3.8 billion and 3,250 infantry assault vehicles for $1.9 billion, and would be paid for by the U.S. Foreign Military Financing program, according to documents reviewed by the Journal and an unnamed source.
The proposed arms sales were first sent to congressional leaders about a month ago, before Israel’s Sept. 9 strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar. The U.S. administration has continued to seek approval for the sales since the Israeli attack, the Journal’s sources said.
