Douglas Macgregor served a highly-decorated career in the U.S. Army from 1976 until 2004, when he retired with the rank of Colonel. In late 2020, he was appointed as Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Defense, a position he held until the end of U.S. President Donald Trump’s first term in 2021. He also holds a PhD in international relations from the University of Virginia, and taught in the Department of Social Sciences at United States Military Academy West Point.
During his career, Col. Macgregor has had a major strategic and intellectual influence on military policy. He has written five books, some of which have led to substantial policy transformation and development within militaries across the world, including in the United States, Russia, China, and Israel.
On Oct. 4, Col. Macgregor will host the first of what he hopes will be many town hall meetings across the country called “The National Conversation,” aimed at providing an avenue for Americans to discuss a way forward outside of the two-party system. The following is an edited transcript of an EIR interview conducted on September 23 by Diane Sare.
