The Lead

A Presidential Coincidence of Opposites

by Dennis Speed (EIRNS) — Oct. 31, 2025

The world was temporarily saved again, probably, by the just-concluded combination of meetings held by U.S. President Donald Trump in Asia. While the meetings with South Korea and Japan were important, most notable was Trump’s face-to-face meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had the following readout: “On October 30, 2025 local time, President Xi Jinping had a meeting with U.S. President Donald J. Trump in Busan.

“President Xi noted that under our joint guidance, China-U.S. relations have remained stable on the whole. China and the United States should be partners and friends. This is what history has taught us and what reality needs. Given our different national conditions, we do not always see eye to eye with each other and it is normal for the two leading economies of the world to have frictions now and then. You and I are at the helm of China-U.S. relations. In the face of winds, waves and challenges, we should stay the right course, navigate through the complex landscape, and ensure the steady sailing forward of the giant ship of China-U.S. relations. I am ready to continue working with you to build a solid foundation for China-U.S. relations and create a sound atmosphere for the development of both countries.”

U.S. National Public Radio reported: “On the flight back to Washington, Trump told reporters traveling with him that he would rate the meeting with Xi ‘on a scale from zero to 10, with 10 being the best, I would say the meeting was a 12.’”

In his earlier X message regarding the meeting, Trump said, among other things, that “China also agreed that they will begin the process of purchasing American Energy. In fact, a very large-scale transaction may take place concerning the purchase of Oil and Gas from the Great State of Alaska.”

There is no sign at this time that this is connected to the Russia-U.S. August 15 (and earlier) discussions around the Bering Strait Tunnel Project. It is, however, the ensemble of projects—rail, including high-speech rail; tunneling and boring, in which the Chinese have the greatest experience; new and improved materials for construction; communications technologies; and energy/power, including advanced nuclear power plant construction of the type indicated by the recent Russian breakthroughs in size reduction of power plants—that defines the technology complex that is the precondition for the required “realization” of the Bering Strait Tunnel project, and its necessary extensions to occur. By now, Russian President Vladimir Putin will undoubtedly have been briefed by this time, by one and possibly by both Presidents.

Nearly simultaneously, however, Trump, perhaps in response to what he was told—or not told—about the significance of Russia’s successful testing of the delivery system of its Burevestnik cruise missile, and a similar successful breakthrough with its underwater Poseidon missile, issued this statement: “The United States has more Nuclear Weapons than any other country. This was accomplished, including a complete update and renovation of existing weapons, during my First Term in office. Because of the tremendous destructive power, I HATED to do it, but had no choice! Russia is second, and China is a distant third, but will be even within 5 years. Because of other countries’ testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis. That process will begin immediately.”

The reality is completely different. No one, except North Korea, on September 3, 2017, eight years ago, has tested a nuclear weapon since 1998—more than a generation ago. Trump’s later attempts to explain what he meant, compounded rather than clarified. These mercurial, wildly aberrant statements indicate other forces at play, forces often with a British pedigree, that seem to “suddenly” derail real deliberation among China, Russia and the United States. Consequences are also seen in explicitly Teddy Roosevelt-style imperial policy under way toward Central and South America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia (where some diplomatic remedies have just appeared).

Why does this happen? And how can we apply the idea of the “coincidence of opposites” to determine a pathway to navigating the maelstrom, without being deflected from the mission? To actually understand, on a higher level than merely “Trump,” why this happens, consider another recent event that occurred less than a week ago in Washington—the reinstatement, by the National Parks Service, of the statue of Confederate traitor Albert Pike in Judiciary Square.

Here is what economist and 1992 Independent Candidate for President Lyndon LaRouche said about Albert Pike, the judicial officer for the Ku Klux Klan, when LaRouche’s campaign argued for the removal of the Pike statue:

“Look at this statue for a moment. Let’s go back to the time of the man this statue depicts: General Albert Pike. To understand why the United States is in such a mess today—why we not only have these troubles within our nation, but also in our relations with the world at large; why the people in Washington seem to be incapable either of recognizing the problem, or proposing effective solutions; why Clinton and Perot, as well as Bush, show not the slightest comprehension of what our problem is—we have to go back to the time of the Civil War, to the time of the man depicted by this statue, Gen. Albert Pike: racist, traitor, and satanic degenerate.

“The fact that that statue has stood in Washington, D.C. near the Supreme Court, next to the Department of Labor building, maintained on public land at public expense, shows that there is a pervasive corruption and ignorance inside our government, which is the cause for the continuation of our present problems.”

For the statue of someone who not only violently opposed the United States Constitution in the bloodiest conflict in American history, but went on to become the judicial officer for the Invisible Empire of the Ku Klux Klan, to be reinstated in the nation’s capital, is the strongest indication that there is a deep misunderstanding about the nature of the United States Constitution characteristic of our entire Congress, Senate, and Presidency. To go to the source of that misunderstanding, consider this statement of Lyndon LaRouche from his 1984 educational video, “The Power of Labor.”

“Although perhaps few of you know this today, it was during the Golden Renaissance in Italy that Western European civilization first received the new conceptions which, in due course, led to the establishment of our constitutional republic in the United States. Two men of fifteenth-century Italy stand out above all others: the first and greatest of these men of Italy was a German by birth, Cardinal Nicholas of Cusa. The greatest giant among Cusa’s immediate successors was Leonardo Da Vinci.…

“The strange thing is that most of you have at least some vague idea of Leonardo’s importance, but most of you perhaps know nothing about Leonardo’s great, immediate predecessor, a man who was undoubtedly the greatest genius, the most universal and profound mind of the past six hundred years, and the one man to whom modern European culture is more indebted than any single other personality, Nicholas of Cusa….

“We are indebted to Cusa for many other things. For example, it was Cusa who defined the doctrine of international law governing the existence of the modern form of sovereign nation-state republic. It was Cusa who established the doctrine of natural law, as the Founding Fathers of our constitutional republic knew of natural law….”

Pope Leo XIV’s extended discussion, in his October 25 Jubilee speech on Nicholas of Cusa, allows the unknown story about the real origin of the United States in the Italian Renaissance, and not in John Locke’s Royal African Society, to be accessed. Access Nicholas of Cusa’s ideas, and you will access the conceptual power required to drive the American Presidential system, through the Bering Strait Project and the Oasis Plan for Southwest Asia, to a New International Security and Development Architecture. In that way we can ensure that the only nuclear testing that will go on in the immediate future will be for miniature fission reactor design, and joint, advanced work on thermonuclear fusion, by a community of principle governed by “the Coincidence of Opposites.”
