Gaza Peace Negotiations Begin in a World in Flux
by Stewart Battle (EIRNS) — Oct. 05, 2025
By the time you read this, negotiators from Israel, Hamas, and the U.S. will be convening in Cairo to hash out the first steps in the potential agreement to end the war in Gaza. While the intentions of Netanyahu and his co-belligerents are well-known, the Trump administration continues to insist that a mutually-acceptable resolution is possible. Eight Arab and Muslim-majority countries released a statement on Oct. 5 welcoming Hamas’ initial acceptance of the Trump proposal, holding out hope that it can lead to a lasting peace framework for this region.
These developments occur amidst the backdrop of an overwhelming surge in support for Palestinians’ rights from around the world. After 142 nations voted in favor of the France-Saudi Arabia Declaration at the United Nations General Assembly in September, which laid out a plan for ending the war and establishing a sovereign state of Palestine, actions have only accelerated. Israel’s seizure of the Global Sumud Flotilla and the arrest of its passengers have led to eruptions of protests globally. This is a new environment that will never go back to what it was previously.
In a similar vein, some of the most toxic enforcers of mainstream groupthink in the U.S. are being taken down. The ADL and the Southern Poverty Law Center, both notorious for slandering inconvenient political opponents as “antisemitic” or “extremist,” have now both had their ties with the FBI severed. While the reasoning behind this may not always be the most noble, the shattering of the control mechanisms of Western populations is undeniable. Consider, in this light, the landslide victory of opposition candidate Andrej Babiš for Prime Minister of the Czech Republic. Babiš, co-founder with Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban of the Patriots of Europe faction and who opposes further EU funding for Ukraine, now becomes the next shoe to drop in a Europe whose populations are in a state of absolute revolt from the policies of war and economic collapse. A “unified Europe” standing up against alleged “Russian aggression” might become something of a ridiculous joke if only the delusion behind that narrative weren’t so persistent.
The struggle is to not see each of these changes as “issues” in and of themselves, but rather as part of a larger process underway in the world, and—most importantly—one that has not yet been determined. A political, economic, and cultural breakdown of the Anglo-American system is clearly underway, leaving no option but the creation of some type of new organizing principle for the world going forward. The good news is that mankind is inherently good—and every individual holds within themselves the potential to think, to learn, and to contribute to the future we decide to create. Will we act on this actual existing principle, or will we succumb to the irrationalism and nonsense currently dragging mankind down to its doom? Now is the time to be engaged, and decide to shape this process. There’s nothing better you could be doing.
