Egypt wants to put bulldozers and engineering equipment on the ground in Gaza as soon as possible in order to begin to repair and clear damaged roads and ensure the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid, the Al-Qahera News channel reported on Oct. 8.
Egypt is applying diplomatic and “field” pressure to secure approval for the entry of heavy machinery as part of ongoing coordination with the United Nations and international relief agencies, the Egyptian Committee for the Relief of Gaza Residents said. Egyptian bulldozers arrived earlier this week.
Committee spokesman Mohamed Mansour said the bulldozers cleared debris and widened the Abu Al-Hussain camp near the electricity company to accommodate more families.
With the ceasefire agreement coming into force, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said the world is witnessing “a historic moment that embodies the triumph of the will for peace over the logic of war.” From Sharm El-Sheikh, “the city of peace and the cradle of dialogue and understanding,” el-Sisi hailed the agreement as one that “does not only close the chapter of war but also opens the door of hope for the peoples of the region for a future defined by justice and stability.”
Months ago Egypt had drafted a full reconstruction plan which received the backing of the Arab League and is ready to implement it.
