Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, on his arrival at the European Political Community gathering in Copenhagen on Oct. 2, announced that “the EU has decided to go to war” and that at the previous day’s informal EU summit, they had presented a “horrifying” war strategy on how to defeat the Russians.
Part of what Orbán was responding to was the statement of European Council President Antonio Costa, who, at the end of the informal gathering, had told reporters: “Leaders broadly supported initial priority flagship projects that will strengthen Europe’s security, including the European drone wall and the Eastern Flank Watch.” According to Orbán, this direction is detrimental to Hungary and the entire European Union.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded to Orbán’s statements in a social media post, saying: “It is Russia that started the war against Ukraine. It is them who decided we’re living in the time of war. And in such a time, the only question is whose side are you on.”
